Text Description
Chick Corea brings together bass powerhouse Christian McBride and drum master Brian Blade in a trio that earned 2 Grammy Awards for their first outing, 2014's landmark 3-CD set Trilogy. “Both are master musicians and together we have an easy rapport," Chick says of McBride and Blade. "There is a lot of give and take in our music. It’s always a lot of fun.”
The trio's long-awaited follow-up album, Trilogy 2, arrives this fall on Concord Records. The two-disc set features tracks hand-picked by Chick from throughout the trio’s 2016 world tour, capturing the feel of an electrifying concert program. The material spans a range of inspirations, from American Songbook standards to jazz classics, reaching back into Chick own catalog as well as that of some of his most renowned collaborators, including Miles Davis and Joe Henderson.

Bio
Chick Corea Bio
Chick Corea has attained iconic status in music. The keyboardist, composer and bandleader is a DownBeat Hall of Famer and NEA Jazz Master, with an astounding 67 Grammy nominations – and 23 wins, in addition to a number of Latin Grammys. From straight-ahead to avant-garde, bebop to jazz-rock fusion, children’s songs to chamber and symphonic works, Chick has touched an astonishing number of musical bases in his career since playing with the genre-shattering bands of Miles Davis in the late ’60s and early ’70s.
Yet Chick has never been more productive than in the 21st century, whether playing acoustic piano or electric keyboards, leading multiple bands, performing solo or collaborating with a who’s who of music. Underscoring this, he has been named Artist of the Year five times this decade in the DownBeat Readers Poll. Born in 1941 in Massachusetts, Chick remains a tireless creative spirit, continually reinventing himself through his art. As The New York Times has said, he is “a luminary, ebullient and eternally youthful.”

Album Reviews
Fresh, improvisational jazz of the highest order…Corea adds yet another brilliant chapter to his career. ⋆⋆⋆⋆ ½
Music doesn’t get any better than this. Rethink your approach to jazz piano trio albums.
One of the best groups of Corea’s unparalleled career. Collects a number of energetic live performances culled from their recent world tour.
Trilogy 2 is the perfect follow-up, and the sequel jazz fans have long awaited. While the album satisfies listener’s long-time suspense, it will most certainly leave them asking for more (Trilogy 3, please…). This is a must have!
The chemistry Corea has with Blade and McBride remains a total delight; they share his quicksilver reflexes, his playful curiosity, his gift for striking a buoyant stride.
This live double-disc recording is the perfect companion for their previously released masterpiece and is filled with great energy, awesome soloing and in-the-moment improvisation…these three virtuosi are truly among the greatest of the greats.
The band’s also just a triumvirate of performers who seemingly feel playful in each other’s company. There’s a conviviality and lushness to each tune here. And even if this wasn’t Corea playfully cementing his legacy in the company of generation-defining musicians, it’d be worth more than a listen. Or two. A trilogy of listens, even.
The music they create is magical. The peerless chemistry they share elevates their collaborations into the realm of the truly special. Musicianship with an easy camaraderie, making for music that is as artistically exhilarating as it is fresh and playful.
A treasure trove of sparkling energy and thrilling in-the-moment improvisation.
